Attendance and Illness
Students should attend school regularly. Frequent, unnecessary absences may affect your child’s progress. The arrival bell rings at 8:30 am and the dismissal bell rings at 2:30 pm. Please ensure that your child knows the specific location that they will be picked up.
If your child is away one day, it is their responsibility to catch up on missed work. Any sheets given will be in a folder on their desk. They are to take these sheets home, complete them and return them to the hand in bin as soon as possible. They are free to come and ask me questions about missed work before school, after school or during recess or lunch. Students are also expected to read for at least 20 minutes everyday. Please see the Home Reading page for more ideas about reading.
If your child is sick please keep them at home so that they can rest and so that they don't spread germs to other people. Please remind your child to wash their hands frequently and to keep their hands away from their face (even if they aren't sick). They should always wash their hands before eating. If they do sneeze or cough, they need to cover their nose and mouth with their elbow.
If your child is ill, please keep him/her at home until (s)he is better. Inform the office of any absences by calling the absence line at 604-576-8551 as soon as possible.

Late Arrivals
If your child is late for school, (the class has already entered the building) (s)he must go to the office and get a late slip before coming to class. Parents may accompany their child to the office; however students should come down to the classroom and enter independently. This prevents unnecessary disruptions, as the class will already be in session.
Leaving Early
Please try your best not to take your child out of school early for the day. It is disruptive to the learning environment of your child and of other children in the class. It is also important that they do not miss class time. I do understand that at times it is unavoidable. If your child needs to leave early, please write a note in their agenda. Also remind your child to show me the note at the beginning of the day. It is your child's responsibility to remember that they are leaving early and to be ready at the requested time. I will try my best to remind them but sometimes I forget. Please go to the office to pick up your child. The office will phone down to the classroom. Please give your child around 10 minutes to get their stuff together, do their agenda and clean up their work area.
